Brazos River Update: Tuesday, June 17, 2025

The Brazos River will crest today at 34.5’ in Richmond, TX and water levels are forecasted to remain elevated throughout the week. The LID 15 drainage system continues to operate normally with gravity flow. Additional rainfall this week will not require the pump station to operate if the Brazos River gage remains in the low 30’s. The LID 15 pump stations and portable pumps have been tested, and operators are on stand-by if the forecast changes.

During any heavy rain event there may be street ponding or flooding if the storm drains are overwhelmed and backed up.  As rainfall decreases, the storm sewers will catch up and any water in the streets will recede.  Never drive into high water.

Hurricane Beryl Recovery Update – Debris Removal Contract Awarded

LID 15 awarded the Hurricane Beryl Debris Removal contract to Looks Great Services of MS in the amount of $276,900. The debris removal contract is currently being finalized, and the contractor is expected to mobilize in June. Their contract time is limited to 60 days, so all Hurricane Beryl debris removal is still scheduled to be completed by August. A more detailed schedule for each area of debris removal will be posted before the project starts in June.

Earlier this year, LID 15 was awarded a $147,000 Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) Grant from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). The $276,900 debris removal cost exceeds the grant amount that was estimated by NRCS. However, LID 15 has requested more than $70,0000 in additional financial assistance so the District can be reimbursed for 75% of the total project cost.

Since Hurricane Beryl, LID 15 has worked closely with NRCS to minimize the total cost to taxpayers. Unfortunately, for debris removal costs to remain eligible for NRCS reimbursement, the work could not begin until the EWP grant was awarded in April. LID 15 thanks the residents of Riverstone for their patience and support during this final phase of Hurricane Beryl recovery. Hurricane Beryl Recovery Update – $147,000 grant approved

March 19, 2025

LID 15 was recently awarded a $147,000 Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) Grant from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). The EWP grant will fund the final phase of Hurricane Beryl debris removal in the LID 15 bayous and drainage channels pictured below.

Hurricane Beryl caused significant tree damage when it hit the community on July 8, 2024. Ater the storm, LID 15 took immediate action to remove hazardous trees that posed a threat to homes and property. The EWP grant will allow LID 15 to complete all debris removal and receive a 75% reimbursement from NRCS.

Based on the current schedule, the bidding process for the debris removal contract will begin in April, and a contract will be awarded in May. The beginning of June is the most optimistic date for the debris removal contract to start. All Hurricane Beryl cleanup is expected to be complete by August.

Since Hurricane Beryl, LID 15 has worked closely with NRCS to minimize the total cost to taxpayers. Unfortunately, for debris removal costs to remain eligible for NRCS reimbursement the work could not begin until the EWP grant was awarded. LID 15 thanks the residents of Riverstone for their patience and support during this final phase of Hurricane Beryl recovery.
